About the image
Plumose anemones often grow in dense colonies throughout the Pacific Northwest, covering pilings and rock faces in soft, shifting fields of white and orange. Though found in groups, each one is a simple animal, fixed in place and isolated from its neighbours. This particular anemone was alone on a rock a short distance away from the colony.
