Sometimes the shallowest parts of the dive are the best. As we returned to shore, a group of sea lions lingered near our exit point. They followed us into the shallows, staying just out of reach and gliding through the sunlit water while shafts of light reached down around them. In only six feet of water, we stretched the dive to the limits of our air before finally surfacing and leaving the calm behind. Days like this, clear, bright and still, don’t come often on this stretch of coast.
